COLLABORATING WITH LEGO MANUFACTURING VIETNAM, AIT GROUP SUCCESSFULLY ENERGIZES 110KV SUBSTATION AT LEGO FACTORY

Overview of the Substation

As part of LEGO’s sixth global manufacturing facility—built on a 44-hectare site in Binh Duong with a total investment of over USD 1.3 billion—the “110kV LEGO Substation and Grid Connection” project commenced in September 2023. The project includes the construction of a new 110kV substation within the LEGO factory premises, installation of two 110/22kV transformers with a capacity of 40MVA each, an outdoor 110kV switchyard, and an indoor 22kV distribution system. Additionally, a new 60-meter, double-circuit 110kV transmission line was constructed to connect the substation to the existing Phu Giao – Uyen Hung 110kV line.

In strict compliance with LEGO's standards and LEED Gold certification—a globally recognized green building benchmark—the engineers from AIT Group and subcontractors successfully tackled numerous technical challenges by innovative, optimized solutions throughout the design documentation, detailed design, procurement, and construction phases of the project.

Substation Overview Before Energization

By closely coordinating with all involved contractors, AIT Group remained aligned with the investor’s requirements in both quality and schedule, ensuring the substation fully meets LEGO’s stringent quality assurance system upon commissioning.

Transformer T2 and Switchyard Area

After seven months of intensive implementation—marked by a high level of urgency and determination from AIT Group and its partners, along with enthusiastic support from LEGO and consultants GLEEDs, RHV, and EVNPECC3—the 110kV substation at the LEGO Factory was successfully completed on schedule and energized on March 25, 2024. Transformer T1 was energized at 04:40, Transformer T2 at 05:35, and full energization of the substation was completed by 07:00.

Serving as the “heart” of LEGO’s sixth global factory, the substation will ensure power supply for test runs of the manufacturing lines, as well as provide stable electricity for future production operations
