SUCCESSFUL ENERGIZATION OF 4 EXTENDED BAYS AT THE 500KV VUNG ANG SUBSTATION UNDER THE VUNG ANG II THERMAL POWER PLANT PROJECT

The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant is part of the Vung Ang Power Center, located in Hai Phong Village, Ky Loi Commune, Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh Province. With a total investment of USD 2.2 billion, the plant comprises two generating units with a total installed capacity of 1,330MW. Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute an average annual output of 8 billion kWh to the national grid.

500kV Vung Ang Substation

In this project, AIT Group serves as the EPC contractor for the 500kV Vung Ang Substation Expansion Package under the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant Project. The scope includes end-to-end implementation: design consulting; procurement and installation of primary and secondary equipment, communication systems, and SCADA; as well as the construction and installation of the substation and transmission lines connecting the switchyard to the power plant.

Since early this year, all construction packages for the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant have been simultaneously implemented to accelerate progress and commence operation and commercial exploitation by Q3/2025. Despite facing harsh weather conditions—intense heat and a prolonged rainy season—the relentless efforts of VAPCO, AIT, and all involved parties have ensured that the project meets all safety, quality, and schedule requirements to date.

The successful energization of the four extended bays represents a key milestone in the overall progress of the project. It lays a solid foundation for the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant to be connected to the national grid, supporting efforts to rebalance the power generation structure, reduce transmission losses, and enhance grid reliability—particularly during dry seasons and periods of water scarcity. Once in operation, the plant will deliver a stable power supply to Ha Tinh Province and major economic zones in northern and central Vietnam, contributing significantly to regional economic development.
